The National Economic Council (NEC) has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s proposal to comprehensively renovate and modernize all training institutions belonging to Nigeria’s security agencies.
The approval came following the President’s renewed call for the remodeling, re-equipping, and upgrading of training facilities across the Nigeria Police Force and other sister security institutions to enhance professionalism and capacity development.
Briefing State House correspondents after the 153rd NEC meeting held at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State said the Council also agreed that state governments will partner with the Federal Government to ensure smooth implementation of the overhaul project.
To drive the initiative, NEC constituted a special committee to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of all security training institutions nationwide.
The committee is chaired by Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Other members include Governor Uba Sani (Kaduna), Governor Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), and Governor Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa), among others.
A former Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, will serve as Secretary of the committee.
Governor Sani explained that the project will cover training facilities of the Nigeria Police as well as other security agencies, reflecting the administration’s holistic approach to national security reform.
The meeting was chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima, with President Tinubu later joining the session after presiding over the swearing-in of the new INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan (SAN), at the same venue.
