The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has released the Lassa Fever Situation Report for Epidemiological Week 46, covering 10th to 16th November 2025. The report shows a notable increase in confirmed Lassa fever infections compared to the previous week.
During this period, the number of confirmed cases rose from 10 in Week 45 to 19 in Week 46. The new cases were recorded across Bauchi, Ondo and Edo States, which continue to be major contributors to the national case burden.
Cumulatively, Nigeria has recorded 995 confirmed cases and 184 deaths in 2025 as of Week 46, representing a Case Fatality Rate (CFR) of 18.5 percent. This figure is higher than the 16.2 percent CFR reported during the same period in 2024.
According to the report, a total of 21 states have documented at least one confirmed case of Lassa fever in 2025, spanning 102 local government areas. Ondo, Bauchi and Edo States account for 88 percent of all confirmed cases nationwide, reaffirming their status as the most affected states. The predominant age group affected remains individuals aged 21 to 30 years.
The NCDC also noted that no new healthcare worker infections were reported in Week 46, a positive indication of improved infection prevention practices.
Overall, the number of suspected and confirmed cases this week is lower compared to the figures recorded during the same week in 2024. The full situation report is available in the attached document for further reference.
