The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has released the Lassa Fever Situation Report for Week 44, covering the period from 27th October to 2nd November 2025.
During this week, the number of confirmed cases increased slightly, rising from 11 cases in Week 43 to 12 cases in Week 44. The new cases were reported in Ondo, Edo and Benue States.
Cumulatively, as of Week 44 in 2025, a total of 966 confirmed cases and 177 deaths have been recorded, resulting in a case fatality rate of 18.3 percent. This is higher than the 16.5 percent recorded during the same period in 2024. A total of 21 states have reported at least one confirmed case, with infections spread across 102 local government areas.
The majority of the confirmed cases, about 87 percent, were reported from Ondo, Bauchi, Edo and Taraba States, indicating that these continue to be the most affected states.
The most affected age group remains individuals between 21 and 30 years. No new healthcare worker infection was recorded in Week 44.
The report also shows that both suspected and confirmed cases have decreased when compared to the figures reported for the same period in 2024.
