The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has launched an inquiry into a mid-air altercation involving social media personality Martins Otse (Verydarkman) and comedian Freedom Atsepoyi (Mr Jollof) after a video of their fight went viral on Monday.
Footage circulating online shows the two men exchanging blows aboard a commercial flight, prompting widespread reactions and concerns over safety violations. The pair have a history of online conflicts, which escalated months ago after VDM accused Mr Jollof’s wife of involvement with internet fraudsters.
Following the latest development, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, took to X to request information that would aid the agency’s investigation. Responding to one of the viral clips, he wrote:
“If you are kind enough to provide the name of the airline in whose aircraft this incident occurred, and the date, it would help investigations.”
The regulator is now attempting to establish the specific flight and airline involved as part of a formal review into the breach of aviation safety and conduct rules.
Industry experts note that passengers involved in unruly or violent behaviour onboard an aircraft could face penalties ranging from fines to temporary or permanent flight bans, depending on the severity of the incident.
As of the time of filing this report, neither VDM nor Mr Jollof has publicly responded to the NCAA’s demand for details.
