The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued a stern warning to air travellers, stating that unruly passengers at the nation’s airports or onboard aircraft will face denied boarding, arrest, prosecution, and fines.
In a statement posted on his official X handle, the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, said the agency will no longer tolerate disruptive behaviour at airports or during flights.
“From now on, you will notice more denied boarding for unruly behaviour, arrests, prosecutions, and a lot more fines. The NCAA will no longer tolerate these things,” Achimugu warned.
He emphasised that passengers have no right to be rude, threaten, or physically touch cabin crew members, stressing that such actions would attract severe consequences.
“Yes, cabin crew are trained to be polite, sweet, and efficient, and some may choose to overlook minor incidents. However, others will strictly enforce the rules and that is within their right.
“This is why unruly passengers will no longer be treated with kid gloves. As a passenger, you not only have rights but also responsibilities. Your primary duty is compliance. Why would anyone choose to be ‘stubborn’ with the cabin crew and still complain about their manner of approach?
“This sense of entitlement among some passengers must stop,” he added.
Achimugu also criticised Nigerians who comply with aviation rules abroad but ignore regulations at home, urging travellers to respect aviation authorities.
“I have also observed that many people mistake firmness and assertiveness for rudeness and this is one of the bigger issues we must address,” he said.
At the same time, he advised passengers who feel their rights have been violated by airlines or crew members to report complaints directly to the NCAA for proper investigation and redress.
