The Nigerian Navy has inaugurated a newly constructed accommodation facility for senior ratings at the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Bonny, Rivers State, as part of efforts to improve personnel welfare and infrastructure.
The Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Chidozie Okehie, while inaugurating the building, commended the Commanding Officer of FOB Bonny, Commodore Emmanuel Fingesi, for prioritising infrastructure development and addressing long-standing welfare challenges affecting officers and ratings.
Rear Admiral Okehie described the project as a testament to purposeful leadership and noted that such initiatives contribute significantly to morale, discipline and operational efficiency within the Navy.
He was accompanied to the event by the Command Operations Officer, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Chinonyerem Oji, and the Commander of NNS Pathfinder, Rear Admiral Cajetan Aniaku.
Earlier, the Base Operations Officer, FOB Bonny, Lt Commander Sirajo Almustapha, explained that the 20-man Senior Rates Lodge was conceived, initiated, completed and furnished by the Commanding Officer to tackle acute accommodation shortages at the Base.
According to him, the project commenced on August 22, 2025, and was completed on December 30, 2025, housing 62 senior ratings and effectively ending accommodation challenges for that category of personnel at FOB Bonny.
He added that the project reflects the Base’s commitment to excellence, discipline and timely execution of developmental initiatives.
The newly commissioned building is part of several infrastructural interventions undertaken under the leadership of Commodore Fingesi, which have enhanced the overall development profile of FOB Bonny.
