South African rap star Nasty C has spoken candidly about his struggle with alcohol addiction and the reasons he decided to quit.
The 28-year-old artist, known for hits such as “Send Me Away,” revealed that he was drinking heavily on a daily basis before realizing the toll it could take on his health and appearance.
In an interview with British-Nigerian media personality Madame Joyce, Nasty C admitted that alcohol had become a constant in his life.
“I was addicted to alcohol. I was drinking every night. Every time I went to the studio, a restaurant, or even before performing, I drank,” he said. “My tolerance was very high, which was dangerous because I never knew when I had gone too far. I drank vodka, whisky, cognac, tequila, rum—everything.”
The rapper explained that his decision to stop came after learning about the effects of excessive drinking, particularly in South Africa where the term “phuza face” is used to describe how heavy drinkers begin to look significantly older than their actual age.
“I gave up alcohol because I don’t want to get a ‘phuza face,’” he said. “That’s when you age really quickly because of drinking, looking about 10 years older than you are.”
Fans have praised the rapper’s honesty, with many noting that his decision could inspire young people who face similar struggles with substance abuse.
