South African rap star David Junior Ngcobo, better known by his stage name Nasty C, has revealed he may soon ditch the moniker that made him famous.
In a recent sit-down with Madame Joyce in London, the “Coolest Kid In Africa” hitmaker admitted that his popular stage name has no real meaning and was randomly created.
“It’s random. I just put a bunch of letters together and started making words out of it, and then I picked that one,” the rapper confessed when asked about the origin of his name. “I have no idea what it stands for. I don’t know.”
The 27-year-old also came clean about fabricating a backstory he has often shared. According to his earlier narrative, his first producer once called him “Nasty Cat,” and he modified it to form “Nasty C.” But in this interview, he admitted the story was made up.
“It’s a lie,” he said bluntly. “I just wanted to have a story and to mention that guy’s name because he really did help me start my career. My stage name is just a vibe. I want to change it now.”
Nasty C, who has grown into one of Africa’s most celebrated rap exports, did not reveal what his potential new name might be. However, his comments have already sparked speculation among fans about what direction he will take next.
