Nigerian comedian and content creator Nasboi has criticised fellow entertainer Carter Efe for describing skit making as a declining industry.
Carter Efe, who recently transitioned from skit making to online streaming, sparked debate after stating during an appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast that the skit industry was “dead.”
The entertainer said he felt discouraged about his career when he believed skit content was losing relevance, adding that launching a streaming career helped him overcome that period.
Nasboi Responds
Reacting during an interview on Naija FM Lagos, Nasboi rejected the claim, insisting that the comedy skit industry remains active and continues to produce new talents.
He argued that creators who choose to expand into other areas should not discredit the industry that helped them gain recognition.
“Evolving is not a bad idea, but talking down on the industry that made you is a crime in my books,” Nasboi said.
The comedian also described Carter Efe as someone who tends to speak impulsively, though he noted that they remain friends and communicate regularly.
‘Skit Industry Still Thriving’
Nasboi maintained that many content creators are still gaining fame through comedy skits, particularly across social media platforms.
“You can’t say skit making is dead. People are blowing up every day with skit making,” he said.
According to him, entertainers evolving into other sectors, such as streaming or music, does not mean the platforms they started from have lost relevance.
“The fact that people evolve doesn’t mean the industries they are leaving are dead,” he added.
Carter Efe’s comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with some social media users agreeing that content creation trends are shifting, while others insist the skit industry remains a key entry point for many Nigerian comedians.
