Medical services across Nigeria are set to be disrupted as the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) plans an indefinite nationwide strike beginning January 12, 2026.
The decision follows an Extraordinary National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Friday, January 2, and was confirmed in a statement signed by NARD President, Dr. Mohammed Suleiman.
The strike, dubbed TICS 2.0, will commence at midnight on January 12 and continue until all outstanding demands are fully met. As part of mobilisation efforts, NEC directed presidents of NARD’s 91 centres nationwide to hold congresses and engage the media within one week to raise public awareness.
NARD also announced centre-based protests from January 12 to 16, with regional and national demonstrations to follow.
The association’s demands include the reinstatement of the “FTH Lokoja Five,” payment of outstanding promotion and salary arrears, implementation of professional and specialist allowances, clarification of entry-level placements, resolution of delayed house officers’ salaries, and measurable progress in the collective bargaining process.
Suleiman explained that the one-week notice period is intended to allow adequate preparation, stakeholder engagement, and formal notification of security agencies and hospital managements nationwide.
