The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has commenced a comprehensive investigation into allegations of child molestation and abuse at a daycare facility in Lagos.
The move follows renewed attention on social media over posts allegedly connected to singer Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi.
In a statement issued on Friday, NAPTIP’s Director-General, Binta Adamu Bello, directed the agency’s operatives to begin an immediate inquiry into the claims. She stressed that safeguarding children remains a core mandate of the agency.
NAPTIP acknowledged the public concern generated by the online discussions and assured Nigerians that its communication platforms remain open to receive complaints from anyone who may have experienced abuse at the facility in question.
The agency also called on individuals with credible information to come forward through official reporting channels, reiterating that child protection is a top priority.
The development comes amid a surge of online activity triggered by screenshots of tweets from 2012 and 2013, purportedly authored by Simi, which recently resurfaced. The singer has responded to the controversy, stating that the posts were taken out of context and do not relate to any form of misconduct.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has referred the matter to the Commissioner of Police for preliminary investigation.
Authorities have not announced any findings as investigations continue.
