Singer and rapper Azeez Fashola, better known as Naira Marley, has issued a stern warning to Nigerian youths over their growing involvement in sports betting.
The Tesumole hitmaker took to his official X account to remind young people that gambling should not be mistaken for employment or a sustainable livelihood.
“Football bet no be work bro. Please stop before they finish you,” he wrote, cautioning followers against draining their finances on betting platforms.
His comments come at a time when concerns are mounting over the scale of betting among Nigeria’s youthful population. A recent report by Business Insider Africa revealed that Nigeria now leads Africa in sports betting activity, with an estimated 168.7 million active bettors across the country.
The report also found that 70 percent of Nigerians aged 30 and below participate in betting, underscoring the vulnerability of the nation’s young demographic to gambling addiction and financial instability.
Naira Marley’s advice adds to the ongoing public debate on the risks of sports betting, with experts calling for more awareness campaigns and policies to protect young Nigerians from its long-term consequences.
