National Agency for Food and Drig Administration and Control (NAFDAC), said it has destroyed unwholesome and substandard products valued at more than N5 billion in Nasarawa State its seized from across the North-Central region to prevent the circulation of dangerous goods nationwide
ARISE NEWS reports that e and substandard products seized from Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger and Plateau States in the North-Central region were destroyed at the Angwan Rere dumpsite in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
The NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Christianah Adeyeye, while speaking at the destruction of the substandard products on Thursday, he explained that the fake products were confiscated during routine monitoring operations carried out by the agency’s personnel.
NAFDAC boss, who was represented by the North-Central Zonal Director, Mr. Kenneth Azikiwe, the D-G narrated that the exercise targeted at preventing the dangerous products from re-entering the market and posing risks to public health.
She, however, maintained that some damaged and expired items were voluntarily submitted by traders, appealing to all Nigerians to report those producing fake or substandard goods, emphasizing that NAFDAC’s unwavering commitment is aimed at safeguarding public health.
While warning unscrupulous businessmen and women to desist from unholy act, he reiterated his unwavering commitment and dedication that the agency under the control
of professor Christianah Adeyeye would not rest on its oars nor leave any stone unturned in their bid to uphold their mandate of safe guiding the health of the nation.
She, therefore, assured that the Agency would continue to ensure that only the right quality products are available for consumption across the the nation.
According to her, NAFDAC regulated products are stored and distributed in line with Good Distribution and Storage practices (GDSP), in order to guaranty the safety and quality of the product until it gets to the final consumer.
Earlier, Nasarawa Commissioner for Security and Safety Matters, Usman Baba, appreciated NAFDAC’s efforts to sanitise markets and reiterated the state government’s unwavering support to strengthen enforcement and ensured that only genuine products reached.
