Multipro Enterprise Limited, manufacturers of Hypo Bleach, has issued a public warning cautioning Nigerians against consuming the product following a viral social media controversy involving King Mitchy and VeryDarkMan.
In a statement shared on Instagram, the company’s Marketing Manager, Adebayo Adeyemo, stressed that Hypo Bleach is strictly formulated for cleaning purposes and must never be ingested.
“Hypo Bleach, Nigeria’s number one bleach brand, is formulated to remove stains, whiten your white fabric, deodorise and kill 99.9% of germs. It is not a drink. It is not something to consume for the sake of trends,” the statement read.
Company Condemns Dangerous Trend
Multipro expressed concern over circulating videos and AI-generated images that portray Hypo as a beverage, describing such content as fabricated and harmful.
“We want to be unambiguous: those images are fabricated, that framing is false, and anyone encouraging others to consume Hypo, even as a joke, even for views, is putting lives at risk,” the company stated.
The warning follows an online dispute between King Mitchy and VeryDarkMan that reportedly sparked a disturbing trend in which some content creators used Hypo sachets in videos to simulate harmful behaviour. The trend has since drawn criticism from parents, activists, and concerned citizens who describe it as dangerous and inappropriate.
Call for Responsible Content Creation
Multipro appealed to influencers, bloggers, and content creators to act responsibly, highlighting the potential real-world consequences of promoting risky online challenges.
“To every influencer, blogger, and content creator: Your reach is real. So is your responsibility. A trend that ends in ill-health is not a trend worth starting,” the company said.
The company also urged young Nigerians to prioritise their wellbeing and avoid participating in harmful online trends.
“You do not have to prove anything to anyone. Not online. Not offline. Not ever. If someone is pressuring you to try this, that is not a dare. That is harm,” the statement added.
The controversy has intensified calls for greater accountability on social media, with some members of the public urging authorities to take action against those promoting dangerous content that could negatively influence young audiences.
