MTN Nigeria has brightened the festive season for Lagos residents through its Yellow Tide community outreach at Oniru Market, where hundreds received food items, household essentials, and surprise gifts as part of the company’s nationwide celebration of joy and connection.
Speaking to ARISE NEWS during the outreach on Tuesday, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Financial Officer, Modupe Kadri, explained that the Yellow Tide initiative is open to everyone.
“This actually has nothing to do with whether you’re an MTN subscriber or not. As long as you’re in any venue where we are doing our Yellow Tide, then you can take part in the lucky dip.” He added that the campaign is ongoing across the country. “We started in November, and we visited about six states. Now we’re rolling out to other parts of the country, and of course, going back to some of the places we’ve visited before.”
Kadri also reflected on MTN’s motivation for giving back this year, emphasizing the company’s renewed stability after a challenging economic period. “It’s our way of saying thank you; we had a rough past 18 months. Now that we have recovered and we’re back to profitability, we feel that we should share that joy with Nigerians, regardless of whether they’re subscribers or not.”
The atmosphere at Oniru Market was filled with excitement as beneficiaries went home with items such as cartons of noodles, 5kg bags of rice, vegetable oil, salt, garri, and other relief packages.
For some, the surprise went beyond food items. A thrilled winner, Stella Adeze, who received a Redmi 10A smartphone, said she was caught off guard on her way to work. “This is my first Christmas gift, I’m very grateful,” she said.
Another beneficiary, Amara, expressed her joy, saying the event made her Christmas “delightful,” while Ejieke Chukwuka described MTN’s gesture as a blessing, adding: “More grace to MTN… forward ever, backward never.”
For Chinyere, who received a carton of noodles, the gesture brought happiness and relief. “Thank you for this wonderful program,” she said.
Long-time MTN user Olasunkumi also shared his excitement, noting he had hoped for such an opportunity for years. “I feel excited…I advise people to use MTN because I have seen the impact.”
With the Yellow Tide continuing across Nigeria, MTN says it hopes to reach even more communities before the festive season ends, spreading joy, gratitude, and much-needed support nationwide.
