MTN Nigeria has reinforced its dedication to creating a safer digital space for children and young people through renewed campaigns designed to combat online risks such as cyberbullying, harmful content, stalking, scams, identity theft, and other digital threats.
At its first-ever youth-led safety event held in Lagos, the telecommunications giant brought together teenagers, parents, educators, and digital safety experts to address the growing challenges faced by young people in today’s hyperconnected world. The event, which forms part of MTN’s flagship Help Children Be Children (HCBC) campaign, provided an open forum for honest conversations about online exploitation, mental health, and responsible digital habits.
Speaking at the event, MTN representatives emphasized the company’s vision of empowering Nigerian youths to enjoy the benefits of technology without falling victim to online dangers.
“The internet has become an incredible tool for learning, entertainment, and connection,” a spokesperson said, “but it also comes with risks. Through initiatives like HCBC, we’re ensuring that our young people are better informed, better protected, and better prepared”, they said.
As part of the HCBC campaign, MTN has partnered with MTV Base to launch the “Room of Safety”, a 10-episode youth-driven video series that premiered on July 20, 2025, across multiple social media platforms. Through relatable storytelling, real-life scenarios, and expert insights, the series aims to raise awareness and equip young people with practical strategies to navigate online threats.
Each episode explores critical topics such as:
-
How to identify and prevent cyberbullying
-
Recognizing online grooming and exploitation
-
Avoiding phishing scams and financial fraud
-
Maintaining digital privacy and protecting personal data
-
Managing the impact of social media on mental health
By blending entertainment with education, “Room of Safety” seeks to connect with young audiences on a deeper level, encouraging open discussions about the realities of the digital space.
MTN also reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with schools, parents, and government agencies to establish a comprehensive digital safety framework. Future plans include workshops, training sessions, and interactive resources designed to help children, parents, and educators adopt safer online practices.
