Morocco Head Coach Walid Regragui has officially released a powerful 28-man squad selection as the Atlas Lions prepare to host the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Regragui ensured the inclusion of the nation’s biggest stars, such as captain Achraf Hakimi, goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, midfield anchor Sofyan Amrabat, and striker Youssef En-Nesyri. Hakimi, currently recuperating from an ankle injury, is anticipated to miss the opening fixtures, but Regragui insisted his leadership is too vital to omit.
Other prominent names like Noussair Mazraoui, Brahim Diaz, Nayef Aguerd, and Ayoub El Kaabi also earned spots on the official list.
One player noticeably absent from the main squad is Sofiane Diop, who featured in the team’s November fixtures but has been unexpectedly excluded this time. Meanwhile, forward Hamza Igamane, one of Morocco’s top club scorers this season, received a place on the reserve list as he continues to recover from a thigh injury.
Morocco is drawn in Group A alongside Comoros, Mali, and Zambia. The Atlas Lions will commence their quest for continental glory by facing Comoros in the competition’s opening game on Sunday, December 21.
