Nigerian midfielder Daniel Daga has been suspended by his Norwegian club, Molde FK, following a formal indictment and an ongoing police investigation into an alleged sexual assault.
The club released an official statement on Friday confirming that the 18-year-old former Flying Eagles star has been barred from all training sessions and competitive matches for the foreseeable future.
The allegations date back to late April 2025, shortly after Daga arrived in Norway. According to the indictment, he is charged with committing a sexual act without consent, a violation of Section 297 of the Norwegian Penal Code.
“Molde FK has been notified of an indictment against one of the club’s players. The player has been suspended from all training and match activities with immediate effect. Both the player and the club have cooperated with the police throughout the investigation,” the club stated.
The case is scheduled to be heard in March 2026 at the Nordmøre and Romsdal District Court. Until a verdict is reached, Daga remains under contract but completely isolated from the first-team setup.
The suspension marks a significant downfall for a player once regarded as one of Africa’s brightest midfield prospects. Daga, who joined Molde from the Nigerian side FC ONE Rocket in January 2025 on a three-year deal, had enjoyed a productive start to his European career:
Apps/Goals: 15 appearances across all competitions in 2025 with 2 league goals.
Last Appearance: A 2–1 victory against Strømsgodset on November 24, 2025.
International Duty: Represented Nigeria at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in October, where the Flying Eagles reached the Round of 16.
