Olivia Yacé, the Ivorian beauty queen who earned fourth runner-up and the continental title for Africa and Oceania at Miss Universe 2025, has resigned, citing a commitment to her personal values and integrity.
In a statement posted on her official Facebook page on Monday, Yacé explained that continuing in the role would conflict with her principles of respect, dignity, excellence, and equal opportunity. She described her decision as thoughtful and value-driven, emphasizing her desire to fully live by the standards she upholds.
“As Côte d’Ivoire’s representative, I proved I am capable of achieving great things despite adversity,” Yacé wrote. “But to continue, I must remain true to my pillars. Stepping away will enable me to dedicate myself fully to defending the values I hold dear.”
Yacé reflected on her mission to inspire younger generations, encouraging young girls to confidently enter spaces where they might feel unwelcome and embrace their identity proudly. She also extended a message of unity and courage to Black and African-descendant communities worldwide.
Her resignation follows one of the most tumultuous Miss Universe pageants in recent memory, marked by stage mishaps, allegations of rigged judging, and a viral confrontation involving eventual winner Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch. Yacé’s departure adds to ongoing discussions about contestant treatment, transparency, and evolving dynamics within global pageantry.
She concluded her statement with gratitude and optimism: “I deeply appreciate the support I have received. I now embark on a new journey with unwavering determination to uplift and inspire. IT’S TIME FOR AFRICA.”
