The Miss Universe 2025 pageant has been hit by controversy after several contestants reportedly walked out of a pre-event ceremony in Thailand to protest the alleged mistreatment of Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch.
According to multiple reports, tensions flared when Nawat Itsaragrisil, a Thai official connected to the host nation’s organizing team, allegedly called Bosch “dumb” for failing to post promotional content on her social media page.
Bosch, who objected to the remark, was reportedly confronted by Nawat, who then called for security and threatened to disqualify any contestant who supported her.
Following the confrontation, Bosch walked out of the venue, with several other delegates joining her in solidarity.
In a video recorded outside the event hall, Bosch expressed her disappointment and condemned the official’s actions as “disrespectful” and “demeaning.”
“As a country, you have all my respect. I truly love Thailand. I respect all of you, you are amazing people. But what your director did is not respectful,” she said.
“He called me dumb and told me to shut up. I think the world needs to see this because we are empowered women. This platform should amplify our voices, not silence them.”
The incident has since gone viral on social media, sparking widespread discussions about respect, professionalism, and women’s empowerment within global pageants.
As of the time of this report, the Miss Universe Organization and Thai officials have yet to issue an official statement regarding the controversy.
