The Miss Nigeria Organisation has formally apologised to veteran actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde following an incident at its 46th Patrons & Board Dinner that sparked widespread reactions online.
A video from the exclusive event recently went viral, showing an awkward exchange between the actress and a young presenter. In the clip, the presenter appeared to struggle with her introduction, asking a question that left Omotola visibly displeased. The actress responded sharply, questioning the presenter’s readiness before attempting to walk away. She later agreed to a seated interview.
Reacting to the controversy, the organisers released a statement on Tuesday expressing regret over the situation and reaffirming their respect for the Nollywood star.
According to the organisation, the presenter involved was not officially invited to the private gathering and had no affiliation with the event. It stressed that the dinner was strictly by invitation, noting that the presence of unauthorised media disrupted the atmosphere.
The statement also suggested that the viral clip did not fully capture what transpired, adding that several individuals approached the actress in a manner that breached her personal space.
Organisers said the situation created an uncomfortable environment for Omotola, describing the actions of those involved as unacceptable. They maintained that such conduct goes against the values of the organisation and would not be tolerated.
Despite the incident, the Miss Nigeria Organisation commended Omotola for maintaining composure and engaging politely under the circumstances.
The body further urged media practitioners and the public to respect boundaries at private events and adhere strictly to established protocols to avoid similar occurrences in the future.
