Former Super Eagles captain, Mikel Obi, has called on the federal government to dissolve the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) if the national team fails to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Nigeria’s chances of making it to the tournament look slim after their recent draw against South Africa, which left them third in Group C, six points adrift of the Bafana Bafana with just two games left to play.
Mikel blamed the country’s qualification struggles on the NFF’s failure to put its house in order, stressing that another World Cup miss would be unacceptable.
“If Nigeria doesn’t qualify for the World Cup, the entire NFF board has to go… it’s unacceptable.
We didn’t qualify for Qatar — the last World Cup — and now it looks like again we are not going to make it,” Mikel said on the Obi One Podcast.
The former Chelsea midfielder insisted that decisive action must be taken to restore Nigerian football to its rightful place.
