Debate over the dissolution of Mexico City’s transparency institute erupted into chaos on Monday (December 15) as lawmakers from the opposition National Action Party (PAN) took the congressional podium in a bid to protest the measure.
The opposition bloc accused the ruling party, Morena, of not respecting an agreement to make the new transparency body tripartite, leading to the podium occupation.
The session devolved into chaos as members of both parties clashed, leading to shouting, shoving, and physical altercations, including hair-pulling among lawmakers.
Amid the disorder, the session was suspended and relocated to an alternate venue to continue deliberations, local media reported.
