Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi has named the late Argentine legend Diego Maradona as his greatest footballer of all time (GOAT).
The Argentina captain said Maradona remains a timeless icon who transcended generations, adding that his influence on football is comparable to that of Michael Jordan in basketball. “For us, Maradona was the greatest idol and a source of admiration for everything he represented,” Messi told reporters.
“Even though I was little and didn’t see much of him play live, Diego transcended everything. Speaking of another sport, I think it was the same with Jordan.”
Messi also expressed admiration for tennis legends Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic, describing them as athletes he deeply respects.
