Argentine football legend Lionel Messi has revealed that he would prefer winning another FIFA World Cup over adding another Ballon d’Or to his record-breaking collection.
In an interview shared by football journalist Fabrizio Romano on X, Messi was asked which he would rather win again — the World Cup or the Ballon d’Or. His response was emphatic:
“World Cup or another Ballon d’Or? Another World Cup.”
The Inter Miami forward, who led Argentina to World Cup glory in Qatar 2022, said team success on the global stage means more to him than individual accolades.
When asked about life after football, Messi hinted at his future ambitions, saying he would prefer to become a club owner rather than a manager.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner also addressed the possibility of featuring at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, noting that while he is excited about the idea, he will only participate if he feels physically fit enough to contribute meaningfully to the team.
Messi’s comments underscore his continued passion for the game and his deep connection to Argentina’s national team as he approaches the twilight of an illustrious career.
