Argentina captain Lionel Messi has set a new record for the most assists in international football history.
The Inter Miami forward achieved the milestone after providing two assists in Argentina’s 6-0 victory over Puerto Rico in an international friendly at Chase Stadium on Wednesday.
With those two assists, Messi surpassed his former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain teammate Neymar, who previously held the record for Brazil.
The 38-year-old registered one assist in each half, bringing his total to 60 assists for Argentina in 194 appearances, alongside an impressive 114 goals.
In comparison, Neymar recorded 59 assists in 128 games for the Seleção.
Messi’s latest achievement further cements his legacy as one of the most complete attackers in football history.
