Big Brother Naija Season 4 winner, Mercy Eke, has revealed that she is not opposed to having children outside marriage, saying she would keep a pregnancy even if it comes before she ties the knot.
Speaking on a recent podcast, the reality TV star said she is not actively trying to conceive out of wedlock but would embrace motherhood if it happened unexpectedly.
“I won’t go the extra mile to get pregnant out of wedlock. But if it just happens, I would leave it and have my baby,” she said, adding that she hopes to have three children. “Two girls and one boy or three girls, I love female children.”
Mercy argued that society’s judgment of single mothers is largely influenced by financial status, claiming that the harsh stigma applies mostly to women who are struggling.
“What most people don’t know is that the stigma of being a single mother only applies to women who don’t have things going well for them,” she said. “The women breaking barriers, men are begging them for marriage.”
She added that she has no shortage of suitors but has yet to meet the kind of man she desires.
“I can get married tomorrow if I want to. But what I want in a man, I have not seen it. It’s not like there is no suitor, there are plenty. Even if I have a baby, I would still see a man,” she said.
Mercy’s remarks have sparked renewed conversations online about marriage expectations, financial independence, and shifting social norms.
