Kylian Mbappe scored a hat-trick as Real Madrid brushed aside Kairat 5-0 in Tuesday’s Champions League group-stage clash in Almaty.
The French forward struck three times to put the 15-time European champions back on track after their weekend derby defeat to Atletico Madrid. Eduardo Camavinga and Brahim Diaz added further goals to cap a dominant performance from Xabi Alonso’s side, who provisionally moved top of their group.
Madrid travelled over 7,000 kilometres for the encounter, but their long journey did little to disrupt their rhythm against debutants Kairat, who had stunned Celtic in qualifying but struggled to contain Los Blancos.
Mbappe, now on 13 goals in nine matches across all competitions this season, admitted he remains hungry for even greater efficiency.
“If I have five chances, I want to score five goals — that’s why Real Madrid bought me,” he told Movistar. “I’ll work to be better and try to score more goals and be more efficient in front of goal.”
The 25-year-old converted from the spot after 18-year-old Sherkhan Kalmurza, deputising in goal due to Kairat’s injury crisis, fouled Franco Mastantuono. The teenager endured a difficult night, with Madrid’s attacking quality proving overwhelming.
Despite the emphatic result, Mbappe insisted the team must continue to learn from their derby collapse.
“We can’t forget what happened this weekend,” he said. “We have to keep working to ensure we don’t have another night like that.”
