France captain, Kylian Mbappé, has tipped Spain as serious contenders to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 26-year-old forward, who scored in France’s 3-0 qualifying win over Azerbaijan on Friday, said Spain’s current form makes them “the best team in Europe.”
“For me, [Spain] are the best team in Europe right now,” Mbappé said. “But the World Cup is different.”
Despite Les Bleus being among the favourites to lift the trophy again, Mbappé’s remarks highlight his respect for the reigning European champions.
Mbappé previously won the 2018 World Cup with France and finished as runner-up in 2022, losing to Lionel Messi’s Argentina in a dramatic final.
