Doctors diagnosed the 66-year-old tactician with atrial fibrillation, a condition characterized by an erratic heart rhythm that necessitates specialized medical attention.
The Serie A outfit confirmed that the procedure followed a routine schedule and anticipates that Sarri will resume his managerial responsibilities at the Formello training ground within the next few days.
The Rome-based club utilized their official X account to provide a detailed medical update regarding the veteran manager’s status. The statement clarified that Sarri underwent a transcatheter ablation at the Policlinico Tor Vergata hospital, employing advanced PFA technology to address the cardiac arrhythmia. Lazio’s club physician, Dr. Italo Leo, attended the session to oversee the transition and recovery process.

Lazio announced that head coach Maurizio Sarri, following the detection of atrial fibrillation, underwent a transcatheter ablation procedure using PFA technology at the Policlinico Tor Vergata hospital. The operation, performed by Professor Andrea Natale, an internationally recognised pioneer with more than 30 years of experience in treating this condition was successfully completed. The procedure was attended by S.S. Lazio’s club doctor, Dr Italo Leo. The head coach will resume his regular duties with the team in the coming days,” the club stated.
Sarri returned to lead the Biancocelesti for a second tenure in June 2025 and currently navigates a competitive season where Lazio occupies eighth place in the league table.
