Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed he will continue to rotate his squad as the Blues look to remain competitive across four competitions this season.
The London side will travel to face Wolves in the League Cup fourth round on Wednesday, hoping to recover from their 2-1 Premier League defeat to Sunderland over the weekend.
Maresca, who made 10 changes for Chelsea’s 5-1 Champions League win over Ajax last week, emphasized the importance of resting players to maintain fitness levels throughout a demanding season.
“We need to rotate,” Maresca told reporters on Tuesday. “If we go with the same XI, we are going to struggle during the season. We’ll make some changes against Wolves — I don’t know how many, but definitely some to help protect the players.”
The Italian also provided a fitness update on striker Liam Delap, who has been sidelined since August with a hamstring injury.
“Liam completed the whole session with us yesterday with no problems and is available for tomorrow,” Maresca said. “We have to be careful with him — 90 minutes, no. He’s been out for two months, so he needs to be gradually brought back to full fitness.”
