Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has identified three players he considers crucial to the stability of his squad, while explaining why they cannot feature in every match for the club.
Speaking after Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat to Leeds United in Wednesday’s Premier League clash at Elland Road, the Italian coach emphasized the importance of squad rotation, particularly with players who are still managing their fitness levels.
Maresca noted that Wesley Fofana, Moises Caicedo and Reece James remain central figures in Chelsea’s long-term plans, but insisted he must prioritize their health to avoid prolonged absences.
“Again, because we change players, because we’ve players that we said many times that for them it is not possible to play every two, three days.
“And when you change players, also the level drop is the reality, because they’re important players for us, but they can be important players for any team.
“Moi, Reece, Wes, these kind of players. But we cannot use them in every game.
“It is impossible, because otherwise they can get injured again and be out for months and months,” Maresca said.
Chelsea remain focused on managing player workload as they continue their Premier League campaign, with Maresca stressing the need for balance to keep key stars available for the long term.
