The technical leadership at Nasarawa United has expressed significant satisfaction with the squad’s execution following a narrow 1-0 triumph against Ikorodu City. Technical Adviser Mbwas Mangut praised his players for their adherence to the pre-match tactical blueprint during the Sunday encounter in Lafia, which saw the home side secure all three points through a late moment of individual brilliance.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 83rd minute when Bright Amadi successfully converted a set-piece, curling a free-kick into the net to ignite celebrations among the local supporters. Reflecting on the contest, Mangut acknowledged that the strategy was heavily influenced by the pedigree of their opponents, who have established themselves as a formidable force in the current campaign.
Speaking to the club’s official media department, Mangut detailed the tactical shift that occurred during the match:
“Before now, we were very much aware of how difficult this game would be, knowing that Ikorodu City are also a team in contention for the league title. We gave them a lot of respect in the first-half. We sat back a lot, no chance created, so, we decided to effect some changes in the second half, and you saw that those changes made the difference for us.”
This hard-earned victory has significant ramifications for the NPFL standings, propelling the Solid Miners to third place with a total of 47 points accumulated from 29 fixtures. Their resolve will be tested further in their next outing, as they prepare for a high-profile journey to Ikenne to face the reigning champions, Remo Stars.
