Manchester City have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain for a reported fee of €35 million (\$41m).
The 26-year-old Italian has penned a five-year contract, arriving as Ederson ends his eight-year spell at the Etihad to join Turkish giants Fenerbahce.
Donnarumma was part of the PSG side that lifted the Champions League last season and famously helped Italy win Euro 2020. However, his omission from PSG’s recent Super Cup squad signaled the end of his time as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.
“To have signed for Manchester City is such a special and proud moment for me,” Donnarumma said. “I am joining a squad packed with world-class talent and a team led by one of the greatest managers in the history of football in Pep Guardiola. This is a club every player in world football would love to join.”
City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, hailed the signing as a major coup.
“Gianluigi’s pedigree, quality, and record speak for itself, and we are all absolutely thrilled he has joined us here at City,” Viana said. “He has accumulated a wealth of top-level experience and knows what is required to achieve sustained success.”
