A video from the Afro Punk Festival in Brazil has gone viral after a male fan reportedly denied being married to share a brief moment on stage with Nigerian singer Tems.
In the clip circulating online, Tems could be heard addressing the man during her performance, saying she did not want to disrespect his wife by serenading him.
“I know your wife is here, and I need to respect her,” Tems said.
However, the man, whose alleged wife was standing nearby, denied being married, prompting laughter and surprise from the crowd. He then kissed Tems’ hand, sparking cheers and screams from the audience.
The moment has triggered fresh debate online about boundaries and fan interactions at Afrobeats concerts, with many questioning whether such exchanges cross the line of respect for partners attending events together.
This isn’t the first time an Afrobeats performance has stirred controversy. In February 2024, singer Omah Lay faced backlash after inviting a female fan on stage during his London concert at the Eventim Apollo. The pair’s intimate interaction went viral, and reports later surfaced that the fan’s relationship ended shortly after.
