Manchester City have been dealt an injury scare ahead of Sunday’s Premier League showdown with Manchester United, as forward Omar Marmoush picked up a knee problem on international duty with Egypt.
The 26-year-old limped off in the ninth minute of Egypt’s World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso on Tuesday, after sustaining a bruised knee ligament from a heavy challenge in the opening minutes.
Marmoush initially attempted to continue but was forced off just five minutes later. The Egyptian FA confirmed the diagnosis, noting that City’s medical staff will further assess the extent of the damage.
The in-form forward now faces a race against time to prove his fitness for the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium this weekend.
