In a bid to strengthen cooperative governance, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has held discussions with President Bola Tinubu on Thursday, focusing on security, poverty alleviation, and citizen welfare.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Makinde emphasized that their discussions were driven by the need for practical solutions rather than party politics.
“Our focus was on governance and improving the lives of Nigerians, not political affiliation”, he said.
Asked if the meeting signaled closer ties with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the governor clarified that political differences have never affected collaboration.
“We may belong to different parties, but that does not stop us from working together. Nigeria’s challenges require all leaders to engage and cooperate”, he added.
Makinde highlighted that issues like insecurity, poverty, and public welfare are above partisan divides. “These are challenges that concern every Nigerian. Leaders must consult, coordinate, and take joint action to make life better for the people”, he said.
Addressing speculation about a possible defection to the APC, Makinde dismissed the idea, reaffirming his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). “I am fully committed to the PDP”, he stated, while noting that some national challenges require bipartisan cooperation.
