President Bola Tinubu is expected to receive a security briefing from Vice President Kashim Shettima following his recent assessment visit to Maiduguri, Borno State, in the wake of recent deadly attacks.
Shettima travelled to the state to evaluate the situation firsthand after coordinated suicide bombings targeted key locations in the city, resulting in multiple casualties and injuries. The attacks have heightened concerns over security in the Northeast.
During the visit, the Vice President met with victims, bereaved families, and community leaders, expressing condolences and solidarity.
He said the visit was aimed at engaging directly with those affected and understanding the situation on the ground. “We came to identify with the victims and assess the realities firsthand”, he noted.
He also visited injured survivors receiving treatment, assuring them of the Federal Government’s continued support.
“No cause justifies the taking of innocent lives”, Shettima said, condemning the attacks as senseless and unacceptable.
Reaffirming the government’s resolve, he pledged that those behind the violence would be brought to justice. “We will not relent until peace and stability are fully restored”, he said, adding that security efforts would be intensified across the region.
The Federal Government, he said, is working through relevant agencies to provide immediate relief and long-term support to affected communities, while strengthening measures to prevent further attacks.
Following the engagement, the Vice President is expected to join state governors in paying Sallah homage to the President as part of Eid-el-Fitr activities.
