Amid fresh security concerns in Borno State, Governor Babagana Zulum has declared that anyone aiding insurgents will be regarded as an enemy of the state and will face the full weight of the law.
In a statewide broadcast from Maiduguri, the governor said recent coordinated attacks in parts of the state highlight the need for sustained vigilance, despite years of progress in restoring peace.
The incidents, which struck busy locations including the Monday Market axis, the Post Office, and the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, resulted in multiple casualties and left many others injured.
Zulum described the renewed wave of violence as “deeply concerning”, but noted that it reflects increased pressure on insurgent groups due to ongoing military operations.
“These attacks are a reaction to intensified offensives that have disrupted their activities. Having been dislodged, they are now attempting to infiltrate our communities”, he said.
Reassuring residents, the governor maintained that the situation remains under control and that security agencies are taking decisive steps to contain the threat.
“We are constantly reviewing our strategies and strengthening coordination to ensure the protection of lives and property”, he added.
He warned that individuals who provide shelter, intelligence, or logistical support to insurgents would no longer be tolerated.
“Those who collaborate with these criminals are not patriots but enemies of the state. They will be identified and brought to justice”, Zulum declared.
The governor called for stronger cooperation between citizens and security agencies, emphasising that community support is critical to defeating insurgency.
“This fight is not for the military alone. It requires the collective effort of all citizens. Our people must remain vigilant and continue to support security forces with credible information”, he said.
Zulum also extended condolences to victims of the attacks and paid tribute to security personnel and local volunteers who have made sacrifices in the line of duty.
He commended the support of the Federal Government under Bola Tinubu, noting that continued funding and collaboration remain key to sustaining operations.
The governor further urged political leaders and stakeholders to prioritise unity and avoid actions that could undermine peace, stressing that stability must come before political interests.
