Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has opened up about his challenging spell away from football following his two-month suspension over an alleged betting scandal.
The Nigeria international returned to action two weeks ago in Udinese’s game against Cremonese, and made his third appearance of the season in their 3-1 defeat to Juventus on Wednesday night.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the 26-year-old admitted it was difficult being sidelined but expressed gratitude for the support he received from his teammates and coaches.
“I’ve been out for a while, and it’s always difficult to be without football, but the goalkeeping coaches and the players have always helped me,” Okoye said.
“I feel good, I’m happy, I want to grow, and I learn every day.”
Okoye will be looking to reclaim his position as Udinese’s first-choice goalkeeper as the season progresses.
