Veteran Nigerian rapper and music executive M.I Abaga has shared his views on parenting, revealing that he would prefer to raise his future children in Nigeria rather than abroad.
In a recent interview, the rapper highlighted Nigeria’s strong sense of community and family support, describing it as an ideal environment for nurturing children. He said that despite the challenges of living in the country, its communal structure provides a foundation that helps parents and children stay connected.
According to Abaga, raising children in Western countries like the United States can be more demanding because relatives often have tight work schedules, leaving little time for hands-on family involvement.
“There’s something about home that’s irreplaceable,” he explained. “In Nigeria, family and community are always around to support you. Abroad, people are often too busy with work to help.”
While acknowledging that life overseas has its attractions, the One Naira crooner said he envisions a balanced upbringing for his future kids — one that combines early years in Nigeria to build cultural roots, followed by exposure abroad later in life.
“I think Nigeria is great for early development,” he added. “Maybe later, they can move abroad for broader experiences. For now, I think the foundation should be here.”
Although he noted that he is not yet making concrete family plans, Abaga reaffirmed his belief that Nigeria’s close-knit social structure makes it an excellent place to raise children.
