Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has shared her perspective on the ongoing debate over whether actors should secure roles based on their appearance or talent.
Speaking in an interview with Hip TV, Jegede emphasized that looks are a significant factor in showbiz. “There are many things actors can rely on, not just looks. But then again, looks are very important because it’s showbiz. What you show people is what brings business,” she said.
She acknowledged that many actors succeed through skill and experience rather than appearance alone. “A lot of people have been able to get roles by doing other things, not necessarily looks. But if your appearance is your strongest asset, then bring it forward. It happens in every industry,” Jegede added.
On the subject of remuneration in Nollywood, the actress noted that payment often reflects an actor’s experience and contribution to the industry. “It depends on your milestone and the dues you’ve paid. If you’ve been here long enough and you’ve paid your dues, you’ll be paid your worth,” she explained.
Jegede expressed satisfaction with her career earnings, saying, “Nollywood pays the bills. Not all the bills, but it does pay the bills. I’m very happy with where we are now compared to before.”
