London City Lionesses have completed the signing of France international Grace Geyoro from Paris Saint-Germain, in what has been described as one of the most significant transfers in women’s football this summer.
While sources in France initially suggested the deal had set a new world record at £1.4m, the Women’s Super League club clarified that the fee, though substantial, fell short of breaking that barrier.
“It is a fantastic signing and a fantastic player but the numbers are not quite right. I suspect those figures are more promoted from the other side,” London City chief executive Martin Semmens told TalkSport.
“It is a big deal — around the £1m mark — but not a world record sadly.”
The women’s transfer record has already been broken twice this summer: Arsenal’s £1m signing of Olivia Smith in July, followed by Orlando Pride’s £1.1m capture of Lizbeth Ovalle from Tigres UANL last month.
Geyoro, 28, becomes London City’s 16th permanent signing in a remarkable recruitment drive bankrolled by American owner Michele Kang. The midfielder has earned 103 caps for France, scoring 22 goals, and featured in two World Cups, two European Championships, and the 2024 Olympics.
Since sealing promotion to the WSL, London City have added several big names, including Jana Fernández (Barcelona), Danielle van de Donk (Lyon), Katie Zelem (Manchester United), and Nikita Parris (England).
Geyoro was one of two late-window arrivals, alongside Spanish teenager Lucía Corrales, whose £430,000 release clause was triggered to bring her in from Barcelona. The 19-year-old defender, a La Masia graduate, made her Liga F and Champions League debuts in 2022–23 before a loan spell at Sevilla.
For Geyoro, the move ends a remarkable 13-year spell at PSG, where she made nearly 270 appearances, scoring 54 goals, winning three French Cups, and twice finishing as a Champions League runner-up.
London City open their WSL campaign against Arsenal on Saturday, with Geyoro in line for her debut at home to Manchester United on Sunday, 14 September.
