Nigerian dancer and former Big Brother Naija housemate, Roseline Omokhoa Afije, widely known as Liquorose, has revealed that her first attempt to join the reality show in 2020 was abruptly cut short, despite being fully prepared backstage.
In a podcast interview with media personality VJ Adams, Liquorose said she had gone through the selection process and was at the launch venue dressed, made up, and waiting to be ushered on stage when organisers suddenly dropped her.
“In 2020, I was backstage at the BBNaija opening show. I was dressed up and makeup done, but I was not called. That really hurt me,” she said.
Liquorose and another potential housemate, Jaypaul, were later barred from joining the 2020 edition after testing positive for COVID-19, a situation she said left her depressed and questioning her dreams.
The setback almost discouraged her from auditioning again in 2021.
“That experience was messing with me,” she recalled. “The following year, I didn’t even want to audition but my friend convinced me. I auditioned and forgot about it. One day I checked my spam mail and saw I had been selected. It was crazy.”
Liquorose eventually made it into the 2021 season, finishing as the first runner-up behind Whitemoney.
