Lions wing Eduan Keyter said the team will draw on their newfound confidence from securing their first United Rugby Championship win as they prepare to face a “different beast” in Ulster.
The Irish side are riding plenty of momentum of their own after securing three wins in a row. These include wins against the Bulls in Belfast and the Sharks in Durban.
They sit fifth on the URC table with 15 points from the three bonus-point wins.
Lions confident again
Keyter said the Lions have reason to be confident come their Saturday afternoon clash, thanks to their bonus-point win over Scarlets at Ellis Park on the weekend.
It picked the Joburg side up at a good time after away defeats to Cardiff, Zebre and Benetton.
“It was a tough tour. We set the goal for ourselves that we must get 10 points from these two [home] games and I think it was a good start,” said Keyter, who was strong in attack against Scarlets, probing their defence for the full 80 minutes.
“It was a tough game, it’s always a tough game no matter who you play.
“A different beast is coming this weekend. But the win gave us a bit of confidence and belief in ourselves to make us ready for the upcoming game.”
Keyter fits into Lions style after move from Sharks
On a personal note, Keyter said he was excited to be playing after being out since last December due to a knee injury that required extensive surgery.
“My body is feeling good now and I am excited for the rest of the games this season. I am just working my hardest to stay fit, stay on top of my game and keep away from injuries.”
The 29-year-old said his move from the Sharks last season was good for him.
“I like the brand of rugby the Lions play. I like running with the ball and putting my body on the line, working hard for my teammates.
“Everyone is for each other at the team. It made it an easy transition from the Sharks – from a kicking game to a more attacking game. It suits me quite well.”
