Argentine football legend Lionel Messi has officially signed a new contract with Inter Miami, extending his stay at the Major League Soccer (MLS) club until December 2028.
The deal, confirmed on Thursday, follows reports last week of a verbal agreement between Messi and the club’s management.
The MLS has now approved all the formal steps required for the contract extension.
With the new deal, Messi is set to remain at Inter Miami for three more years, continuing his role as the face of the club and one of the biggest stars in American football.
Messi, who joined Inter Miami in 2023 after leaving Paris Saint-Germain, has been instrumental in raising the profile of the MLS both on and off the pitch. His presence has attracted record attendances, boosted global viewership, and drawn several high-profile players to the league.
Inter Miami are expected to build their long-term sporting project around the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, as they aim for sustained success in domestic and continental competitions.
