Nollywood actress Lilian Afegbai has spoken out after missing out on a nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category at the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
Afegbai, popularly known as Lily Afe, took to social media to share her reaction, stating that while she was not entirely surprised by the omission, it was still disappointing.
The actress, who played the character Idia in Kemi Adetiba’s Netflix series To Kill a Monkey, insisted that her performance resonated strongly with audiences, particularly highlighting the widespread attention the role received.
“I believe everything happens for a reason. I don’t need a nomination to feel validated, but it’s obvious the impact my character had,” she wrote, while also expressing frustration over the outcome.
Her portrayal in the series earned praise from viewers, especially for her delivery in pidgin English, which many described as authentic and compelling.
The Best Supporting Actress category features nominees such as Linda Ejiofor, Bisola Aiyeola, Sola Sobowale, and Funke Akindele.
The AMVCA ceremony is scheduled to hold on May 9, 2026, where winners across multiple categories will be announced.
