At least 11 school pupils lost their lives in a tragic accident involving a scholar transport vehicle in Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng, on Monday, 19 January 2026.
The collision occurred on Narrow Road when a minibus transporting pupils crashed into a heavy-duty truck.

Five other pupils sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical treatment.
Emergency medical services and the South African Police Service (Saps) are investigating the cause of the crash.
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and Gauteng MEC for Education Matome Chiloane visited the scene to assess the situation and offer support.
The accident occurred as the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) was holding a media briefing.
The Chapter 9 institution was releasing its final inquiry report on scholar transport.
