Reality TV personality Leo Da Silva has urged Nigerians to reconsider judging how others mourn, following criticism directed at a content creator who lost his wife.
The content creator explained that remaining active online was necessary to support his three children, prompting Leo to question the morality of dictating how people should process loss.
“This guy makes content with his wife and his wife just died leaving him with 3 kids. Nigerians are telling him to go offline to mourn. He’s telling them he needs to be online so he can feed his family. Who tf are you to tell anyone what to do after they lose their loved one?” Leo wrote on social media.
He stressed that grief manifests differently for everyone and called for empathy toward those balancing mourning with financial responsibilities.
The post resonated with the content creator’s followers, including a widower who shared his own experience of being judged after losing his spouse.
“When I lost my wife 3 years ago, people asked me to stop posting about my business online and on my status because to them it was insensitive. These were people who didn’t even contribute a kobo to her coffin nor burial,” the widower recalled.
Leo Da Silva’s comments highlight ongoing conversations around social media etiquette, empathy, and the diverse ways people cope with personal loss.
