The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has come under intense scrutiny as the Senate called for the removal of its Registrar-General, Husaini Magaji, over his repeated failure to honour legislative invitations.
The resolution followed a motion moved by Orji Uzor Kalu during the appearance of the President’s economic management team before the Senate Committee on Finance.
Tensions rose early in the session when lawmakers expressed frustration over the absence of the CAC chief, who had been invited to provide clarification on the commission’s operations and financial activities.
Senator Kalu strongly criticised the Registrar-General’s absence, describing it as a pattern of disregard for legislative summons.
“Since I came into the Senate, he has consistently given excuses that he was at the Villa,” Kalu said, urging immediate action against the agency head.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Sani Musa, also raised concerns about unresolved issues surrounding the reconciliation of the commission’s revenue accounts, noting that the CAC leadership had repeatedly failed to appear before the committee to address the matter.
Supporting the motion, Adams Oshiomhole suggested stronger legislative measures, including the possibility of withholding approval of the commission’s 2026 budget.
Following deliberations, the Senate adopted the motion calling on the President to consider removing the CAC Registrar-General.
